" I bought this seat after using a Bell Cocoon child seat for about a month. The Bell seat would not fit on my wife's bike and it was a pain to take it off every time I wanted to ride my bike without the seat. I had looked at the Topeak BabySeat at my local bike shop but thought that the price was too high ($180 compared to $80 for the Bell at Toys-R-Us). I bought the Bell Cocoon for $80 and a non-Topeak rack for my wife's bike for $45 so I had roughly $125 tied up in a child seat that 1) had to be bolted on and off and 2) would only fit on one bike as well as a rack on my wife's bike and knowing that I would need to buy a second rack for my bike if I wanted one, which I did. Had I thought about it more, I would have spent $25 more (Amazon price $150) for the Topeak seat/rack and another $45 for a second Topeak rack. In the long run, it would have only cost $25 more to go with the Topeak seat with an extra rack vs the Bell seat and two racks and I would have saved time in changing out the seat and allowed either one of us to haul our son around.

It took less than an hour to put both Topeak racks on our bikes - one with disc brakes and one without. I mounted the racks while working so if I had not been pulled away a couple of times by phone calls then I could have had the racks on each bike in 20 mins total. The seat itself mounts very easily and is very solid. Within 10 minutes of putting the seat on my wife's bike, she took our son for a ride and he was very happy to be riding with his mom for a change.

Now for the bad/good. My wife went down while trying to do a u-turn on her first ride with the child seat and while carrying our son. Less than 20 minutes into getting the seat on her bike she wrecked. The good is that our son is fine; not a scratch on him - my wife limped back home and I pulled him out of the seat and he started running around the yard like nothing happened. My wife sprained her ankle, skinned her knee and we got to go on a trip to the ER. No biking for her for a few weeks. The side of the seat sustained some scratches but the important take away is that it protected our son from being injured. He never made any contact with the road despite the bike going down on its side. The straps held him in place and the side of the seat protected him. I did not see any scratches on his helment that would indicate that his head/helment hit the pavement. I am very happy with the safety aspect of this seat.

I hope that anyone else who buys this seat or any other child bike seat does not have to experience a real life crash test like we did but you can be assured that the Topeak seat it is a safe seat should you go down with your child. We know.

The ability to switch this seat between bikes without tools is great. If you are looking at buying a child seat and rack, do not make the mistake that I made. Saving a few dollars is not worth the headache of having to break out a wrench if you want the seat off your bike and you will. If you are going to buy a rack for your bike and are going to buy a child seat, buy something that works together. I wish I had bought this seat from the start. "
